Fixing a Tooth is About More than Reducing Pain

Posted on 9/21/2020 by Office of Dr. James A. Krippaehne
Fixing a Tooth is About More than Reducing PainThe human mouth is in constant use. We eat, breath, talk, snore, sing, sneeze, cough, and absent-mindedly dance our tongues between our teeth every day. With so much activity, it becomes blatantly obvious when we procure an injury in this location. Not all oral injuries have to deal with the teeth, but when pain sets in, we all do whatever we can to make it stop.

Use Your Pain

Despite how much it hurts, our pain is a great tool in letting us know when something is wrong. It's equally valuable information when we don't feel it. Gaging the amount of pain, or lack of, is a good indicator to how serious the situation has gotten. Just because your pain levels are low, however, doesn't mean you don't need to seek medicinal assistance. Pain is often just the start of problems that can quickly grow into something much more serious. If you address a low-level pain early on, you could avoid a series of troubles that can spawn from this origin point. Take cavities for example. Often, they just start off as a twinge in your tooth that comes and goes depending on what you eat, drink, and what kind of pressure you put on it. It's not really an intense pain, and many people seem settled with the idea of living with it. A cavity left unattended may not increase in pain, but it will continue to do damage to the tooth, the surrounding teeth, your gums, and possibly your jawbone.

Pain is perspective – it affects each of us differently, but that doesn't mean it should be ignored. Nor should you only visit our offices when you've reached a level of pain that you can't handle. Give us a call regardless of how much your mouth hurts and we'll set you up for success.
