How Does It Feel Eating With Dental Bridge?

Posted on 3/20/2023 by Office of Dr. James A. Krippaehne
How Does It Feel Eating With Dental Bridge?A dental bridge is a common type of tooth restoration. It helps to restore the proper functioning of the teeth while improving oral health. When people hear about dental bridges, the biggest question is, can you eat comfortably with a dental bridge? Eat with a dental bridge feels the same as with natural teeth.

A dentist fixes this prosthetic tooth to the support teeth and connects it to the fake tooth (crown). With this, you can chew and bite without complications. While dental bridges are durable, they have a limited lifespan. If you want to extend the life of your dental bridge, you should implement good oral hygiene and avoid certain food and beverages such as the below.

Sticky Foods

Sticky foods can cause damage to your dental bridge, especially if the bridge has not bonded with the adjacent teeth. Like natural teeth, sticky foods can get stuck between the dental bridge, creating a breeding area for the bacteria. Sticky foods can also pull out the dental bridge when chewing. Some of the foods you should avoid include chewy candy, gums, and caramel.

Sugary Items

Sugar does more harm than good to your oral health. While a dental bridge is not susceptible to decay, it is vital to prevent bacteria build-up. Bacteria can damage your gums and anchor teeth beneath the prosthetic, leaving the dental bridge unsecured. In this case, it is best to limit sugar consumption if you want a long-lasting solution to replace your missing tooth.

Coffee and Wine

Dental bridge features stain-resistant materials. However, this tooth restoration can discolor with time, especially if you routinely consume dark-colored drinks such as coffee and red wine. These drinks can make the prosthetic teeth fade. Unfortunately, it can be challenging to whiten dental bridges the same way as with your natural teeth. The best way to make them pearly white is by replacing them.
