What Is Partial Denture, and Do You Need It?

Posted on 12/19/2022 by Office of Dr. James A. Krippaehne
What Is Partial Denture, and Do You Need It?For many people, the thought of wearing dentures is unappealing. Dentures can be uncomfortable and inconvenient, and they often require special care and attention. Partial dentures offer a more comfortable and natural-looking solution for people who lost one or more teeth.

What Are Partial Dentures?

As a removable dental appliance to replace missing teeth, a partial denture helps restore your smile. They consist of a gum-colored base that is attached to your existing teeth. The false teeth are then attached to the base, creating a secure and seamless fit. Unlike full dentures, partial dentures can be removed and replaced as needed. As a result, they are much easier to clean and care for. In addition, partial dentures can be made to match the color and shape of your existing teeth, making them virtually indistinguishable from your natural teeth. They are usually made of acrylic, plastic, or metal.

How Do Partial Dentures Work?

Usually, partial dentures are held in place by metal clasps that fit around your natural teeth. They can also be attached to your teeth with metal brackets or a bonding agent. The type of attachment used will depend on the number of teeth missing, where they are located in your mouth, and your remaining teeth's strength. Once the partial denture is in place, it will take some time to get used to eating and speaking with it. It's essential to be patient and practice often. With time and practice, you will be able to speak and eat as you did before you got the partial denture.

What Issues Can Partial Dentures Improve?

Partial dentures can improve your appearance and help you feel more confident about your smile. They can also make it easier to eat and speak. Additionally, partial dentures can help prevent your remaining teeth from shifting out of place. If you are considering a partial denture, talk to our dentist about what type of denture would be best for you and whether or not it is the right solution for your needs.
